From October 2009, the one day Emergency First Aid course became accredited by the HSE, not just the three day First Aid at Work course.
The existing one day Appointed Persons first aid course is now known as Emergency First Aid / Appointed Person Course. The HSE have introduced an accredited one day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course. Existing non-HSE approved training providers will have to become HSE approved.
The outcome of this change will result in two levels of accredited first aider for the workplace: EFAW and the existing FAAW. This will enable employers to more closely match their first aid requirements.
The HSE now recommends yearly CPR refresher courses in addition to the existing re-qualifying every three years.
